Advice

Do your research!!!  In watching numerous Scene Design events, I've noticed that judges are extremely interested in how authentic your set is to its location and time period.

They are interested in the basics : keeping open sight lines, creating acting space, entrance/exit management, but it's the little details that establish setting and mood that will really sell your design.

Remember that you are building to scale.  This includes patterns and set furniture.  On a 1/2" scale, multiply the size of everything by 24:1.  My advice is to never build using the 1/4" scale option unless you have tiny micro-robot fingers.
