States 2020 Cancelled

Hey Troupe,

I am very sorry to report that the 2020 Florida State Thespian Festival has been cancelled due to concern about the COVID-19 coronavirus. I know that this is a huge disappointment to all of us, especially our Troupe 6172 Seniors and our competing students who have been preparing their scenes and designs for the past six months.

Our State Director, Lindsay Warfield sent this message to District Chairs:

"At Florida State Thespians, our students and troupe directors are our top priority, always, and giving students the opportunity to learn, grow, and shine in the theatre arts is something we hold very dear. It is with a heavy heart, and a deep understanding of the impact this will have, we announce that in compliance with guidance issued by the Governor and the City of Tampa to contain the community spread of COVID-19, the Florida State Thespian Festival 2020 has been cancelled.

Unfortunately at this time, there is not an option for an alternate date, despite diligent efforts to find one. I know that this announcement will be met with mixed emotions and many questions. As our Board of Directors and I work through the next steps, your patience is greatly appreciated. This may take quite some time. Rest assured that we are working through these complex issues and will promptly provide updates as information becomes available, recognizing that transparency and communication are vital at this time."

I don't have any other information at this time, but if I do receive any, I'll be sure to share it as soon as I possibly can.

-Mr. G
